Finding your SHAPE

Unlike the title of this blog post may suggest, this is not yet another article on fitness or dieting. The SHAPE I'm referring to is more about your inner growth and development than your outward one.

SHAPE in this context stands for Spiritual gifts, Heart/Passion, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences. I stumbled upon this definition in a Bible plan I read by Pastor Rick Warren and was immediately blown away. SHAPE is all about discovering and knowing your purpose in life.

We all find ourselves at the crossroads at some point in life. That deciding moment to map out the course of your life. What is your mission? Your purpose? What can you really offer to the world?

Why I was immediately captivated by the use of the term SHAPE in this context, was because it perfectly sums up today's society. It seems as if everybody is chasing their own SHAPE but often for the wrong reasons. Too occupied with the physical things on the surface we tend to forget that shaping ourselves really starts on the inside and is even more important than the outside. Sounds like a lame excuse? Then think again. Have you ever picked up a piece of fruit that was perfectly shaped and fresh looking on the outside but when you cut it into pieces, you discovered that it was completed rotten on the inside? In this instance what was of greater value to you - that the fruit looked beautiful on the outside or your desire to enjoy the refreshing and nourishing taste of the fruit on the inside?

The same applies to your purpose in life. It is the core and center of your existence. When you spend all your time focusing on the outwardly and superficial things without having a real long-term goal or plan, your efforts will only be short-lived. Without purpose, you are merely floating in life rather than living it. Similar to a boat on the open sea without a rudder or compass, aimlessly being tossed to and fro by the winds. Without course or direction. The good news is your SHAPE is something you have already been blessed with, the things that make you unique as a person are already in you. All it takes is for you to recognize and embrace them.

Don't allow anyone to convince that you don't have any gifts or talents. That is a lie and only an attempt to bring you down. "I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for." Jeremiah 29:11 GNB

Everyone has something to give. Find your SHAPE and make a difference in your world!
