"Let go and let God!" Those are the soothing words often used to encourage. Words that should render comfort and peace. At the same time, these words have often been spoken so lightly without looking at the deeper meaning.
How often have you gotten on your knees to pray and said: "Lord, I surrender all to you!" And then you get up and let your mind race around the same issue you just "surrendered". In essence, you haven't really "let go and let God." If you really trust Him to handle this situation on your behalf you have to let it go completely. Often we make ourselves believe that we have let go and allowed God to step in and handle the situation but then we tend to still try to figure it out on our own.
Let me share a true-life example, of letting go, with you. A dear friend of mine was looking for a job but not just any job - the one that she truly desired. That job that fitted her interests and educational background. For months, she prayed, hoped and applied for jobs. Still, that job wasn't forthcoming or even in sight. Did she give up or stop believing for her miracle? No, she kept going in faith. Even when the pressures around her started increasing and thoughts of doubt tried to find their way into her heart - she kept pushing forward in faith tirelessly. She didn't settle for anything but kept her eyes on the prize. Then one day the miracle happened and she even got more than she had asked God for. Not only did she get a better job than she had hoped for, the salary offered was also more than she had anticipated. To top it off, right on the day of the job interview they told her to start the next day. What a testimony!
The lesson in this story is not just holding on to God but the blessing in allowing Him to really work in the background. Many times, we don't even know the extent or the potential of what we are praying for, but God does. Thus, when you really surrender to Him and allow Him to do His part, while you do yours, even if it takes a while, God will give you more than you could possibly imagine. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
Don't get stressed out or anxious about the things surrounding you but let God work it out on your behalf. He will give you something that is greater than what you could ever hope for.
