The niche of you
Sometimes I wonder if there is anything in this world that is truly unique. "Find your niche!", they say, but even in that field that may make you unique, you'll still find another person doing exactly what you're doing. And that shouldn't intimidate or discourage you at all because even if that other person is doing exactly what you are doing, they will still be missing one thing and that is: You. Therefore, let yourself be that niche.
Oprah Winfrey for example, is she the only person who has ever conducted an interview or hosted her own talk show? No. Yet, there is something special about her and her success. Some people may call it luck or destiny but what makes her truly special is: Oprah. Being herself and all the things that come with being her. Despite the challenges she faced, she created a whole brand around herself. Celebrities did not agree to be interviewed by her because of her ability to sit down in a chair and ask questions - it was about being interviewed by Oprah. So, what makes her so special? Does she do things that nobody else can? Probably not, but she recognized that even if a thousand other people could do what she did, they certainly could not be her. And that is what sets her apart. She embraced that special and unique side of herself and kept moving forward, not caring about the roadblocks in her way. She kept pushing towards her goals and dreams. If Oprah would have allowed doubt to take over, she would have been the one watching others on television.
This illustration should make you understand that anybody can have skills or talents but nobody can be you. And that is a good thing. In fact, an awesome thing because that gives you a unique advantage that absolutely nobody can imitate. They might try to copy the way you dress, speak or even the way you behave, yet they will never really be you.
People define success in different ways. For some, success is only expressed through material wealth and money. For others, success is achieving a goal they have set for themselves, like running a 10k marathon or getting their Ph.D. But the mere fact that you have gotten to a point where you can even use your abilities to further advance and better yourself is cause for celebration on its own. While others spend their lifetime trying to figure out what their talent and purpose in life is, you could take the shortcut and start embracing you.
Don't be discouraged by what others might do better than you because in one area they'll never be able to overtake you and that is being you. See yourself as what you are: your own greatest asset! "I praise You, for I am awesomely, wonderfully made! Wonderful are Your works— and my soul knows that very well." Psalms 139:14 TLV Keep building and taking care of the precious gift that is you. You only have one chance to make the best out of what God has given you.
